Golf Tips on How to Get More Power for Your Drives
You aren’t alone if you would like to find ways to add more power to your drives. There is nothing in golf quite like the feeling of launching a long drive right down the middle of the fairway. While you shouldn’t focus so much on distance that you lose track of the improvements you need to make in the rest of your game, building some added power in your swing is always a nice advantage to have on the course. Longer drives mean shorter approach shots, and that almost always means lower scores.
Check out the tips below to add a few more yards to your tee shots –
- Hit from the inside. Golf swings that attack the ball from the inside are almost always going to have more power and better distance than those which come from outside the ball. The ‘inside’ of the ball refers to the half that is closer to you while making a swing, so picture hitting just inside the back of the ball as you swing through toward the target. When done correctly, this approach will create a nice little draw and a powerful shot that gives you your best possible distance.
- Reach a full finish position. It might seem like the finish position isn’t very important in the swing considering the fact that the ball is already gone when you get there. However, the finish position that you reach is a great indicator of the kind of swing you made, and the kind of power you used. When you end up in a finish position that has your shoulders and hips fully released toward the target, you know you used your body well in the swing. If there is any hesitation in your body rotation through the shot, you won’t end up in this classic finish position – and you won’t maximize your potential distance.
- Swing without fear. Confidence is an amazing thing in golf, and it can even help you hit longer drives. When you address the ball before a tee shot, there should be no doubt in your mind that you are going to hit it long and straight down the fairway. If you doubt yourself, that doubt will creep into your swing and rob you of potential power. Keep your mind clear before each shot and believe in yourself – you will be surprised at what a difference it can make.
